Antonio Maldonado - Mexico Law ExpertMr. Maldonado is a US-Mexico cross-border attorney licensed to practice law in both the United States, in California and New York, and throughout Mexico since the year 2000.  He is a partner of Maldonado Myers LLP, a California-based law firm, and actively litigates in courts located in California and in Mexico, primarily in Baja California and Baja California Sur.  

 

Equally fluent in English and Spanish, Mr. Maldonado is trained and licensed to practice law in both the United States and Mexico. In the United States, he is admitted to practice in California and New York as well as various federal courts. In Mexico, he is admitted to practice in all courts and jurisdictions. He earned a Licenciatura en Derecho (LLB) degree from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico and a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from American University in Washington D.C.

 

Mr. Maldonado primarily focuses his law practice on crossborder litigation and transactions in Southern California and Baja California that are governed by both U.S. and Mexican law.  As one of the few attorneys that practices in both the United States and Mexico, including actively litigating in both countries, he is able to grasp the different issues and problems that can arise in such crossborder disputes and transactions, addressing them skillfully and protecting his clients so that they can avoid often unforeseen complications while enjoying the full protections and benefits offered by the laws of both the United States and Mexico. 

 

He has many times served as an expert witness on Mexican Law in US litigation matters, having been a court-appointed expert on Mexico Law by the Supreme Court of California in Los Angeles County. Mr. Maldonado has been a consultant on Mexican law in US-based litigation, both in and outside of California. Additionally, Mr. Maldonado has also served as co-counsel of record in various California-based civil and probate matters where his input and appearance at hearings are invaluable both to his clients, co-counsel and to the courts.

 

Mr. Maldonado was chosen among San Diego’s best attorneys by the magazine Our City:San Diego in 2009 and 2010 and by the San Diego Metropolitan magazine in 2011 and 2012. He has authored several articles on both Mexico and U.S. law and has been a speaker at seminars and other continuing legal education events sponsored by the San Diego County Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) and by the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM).
